Pilipino Workers Center, a Filipino – American group based in Los Angeles, California defended that Filipinos have no intention to steal American Jobs or the ‘American Dream’, for that matter.
This, after a recent video surfaced online showing a random act of racist slander committed by an unidentified elderly to a Fil-Am family in Daly City – where 33.2% of the population are Filipino by blood.

PWC Executive Director Aquilina Soriano Versoza, in a statement, said that: “Filipino immigrants play a vital role in building the economy of the United States by providing healthcare and education through employed Filipino doctors, nurses and teachers.”

“In fact, most Filipinos take jobs that Americans cannot fill such as caregiving and other forms of domestic work. By taking care of the elderly or the children, the Americans are able to go out and have jobs of their own,” she added, in a statement earlier sent to The Manila Bulletin.

The video that went viral was shared in the online community courtesy of Jenny Veladera showing an elderly woman ranting before Jenny and her family while lining up to the cashier at a grocery store.
The elder woman in the video was seen making childish remarks about ‘other’ races residing in the United States and mocked at the Veladeras by saying, “You don’t want me to talk to Philippine?”

“Come on, come on, come on! Look at all the groceries they buy. Steal our food, steal our money, our jobs,” the old woman rudely said.

Jenny can be heard reacting to the old woman, saying, “So racist. Oh My God.”

“We got a family to feed,” Jenny’s husband briefly explained.

The old woman, however, contradicted and said, “So what? Go back to your country.”

“This is our country!” Jenny quickly pointed out.

Already vexated by the rebuttal she was getting, the old woman responded, “You’re lying, you’re lying, you’re lying! Just how you got here.”

As of 2015, there is an estimated 3.9 Million Americans with Filipino descent from the facts indicated at the PEW Research Center of the U.S. Census Bureau.

Regardless of the many relentless incidents pertaining ‘racial discrimination’ since President Donald Trump took oath, PWC is persistent to continue its advocacy in informing Filipino immigrants residing across the U.S. about their rights.

“We believe that all immigrants have the right to a healthy and dignified quality of life,” said PWC Associate Director Lolita Lledo.
