The news where the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has been distributing expired food packs to the residents of Boracay Island is now widespread after the number of residents started complaining about the condition of their relief goods.

Marissa Jason-Gabriel posted a video on Facebook about the rice’s creepy crawleys and the bubbling sardines that they received off the DSWD food pack that was distributed on the June 16, 2018.

Two days later, DSWD regional director Rebecca Geamala assured the recipients that the food they received were indeed NOT expired.

DSWD employee Hector Previndido theorized that the can of sardines that Marissa took a video of might have exploded with its contents seeping into the rice, which explains why it smelled foul and had insects in it.

Geamala, on the other hand, was saddened by the news yet she was sure that they have been monitoring all of the food’s expiration date within the relief goods that they send.
She stated that,

“NFA rice galing sa Iloilo City ang ibinigay natin sa Boracay noong Sabado. Ang canned goods na galing sa ating winning bidder ay not less than two years din dapat ang expiration.

Whatever the reason may be behind the contamination of rice and the bubbling can of sardines, the regional director ordered that these food packs be taken away and renewed.
