Branded as a terrorist organization, some rebels belonging to the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) have reportedly breached and infiltrated some government housing units particularly the one located in Pandi, Bulacan.

Some housing units, which initially became a dwelling of the urban poor group, Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (KADAMAY) has recently turned into a training hub for NPA’s new recruits.

This was revealed by Jeffrey Ariz, a leader representing KADAMAY’s splinter group, who recently cut ties with other ‘informal settlers’ due to alleged protest fees and issues of harassment from among its members, saying that “They have been conducting teach-ins... Some of them... have been doing house-to-house visitation... in search for recruits as young as 11... and to intimidate us.”

Ariz added that their former colleagues have already occupied empty units in three other housing projects in Pandi town supposedly intended for Quezon City government workers yet to be displaced due to infra – projects.

“I don’t know if President Duterte knows this... the President had only allowed us to occupy housing units here at Villa Luis,” he said.

Atlantica Project located in Barangay Mapulang Lupa was one known recruitment and training center by the NPA recruits, according to one of the residents in the area.

The situation has already alarmed the office of Lt. Col. Julio Eugene Osias of the 7th Infantry Division and is still validating allegations.

“We have seriously taken these concerns... It’s a police matter for now,” Osias said.

Ariz also claimed to have been receiving de*th threats since breaking away from the urban poor group.

“We were given two options... to rejoin the group or be d*ad,” briefly described by Ariz.

KADAMAY leaders also threatened to force them out of their dwelling, Ariz said at a meeting with Chief Inspector Manuel De Vera.

Meanwhile, Pandi – KADAMAY spokesman Pat Tupas was quick to deny Ariz’s allegations, saying that he voluntarily left the group over ‘anomalies’ on group funds.

Tupaz pointed out that Ariz is currently under investigation due to KADAMAY’s missing funds.
