Albayalde discloses 246 priests, preachers request to carry firearms

Albayalde discloses the request to carry firearms of several priests.

I thought that the word of God was the best weapon that a holy priest could have but the revelation that Philippine National Police Director General Oscar Albayalde in which these 246 holy men are requesting permits to carry firearms apparently says otherwise.

Nothing apparently was wrong with this for the Chief stated that under the Republic act 10591, every Filipino citizen, even priests, has the right to possess and carry firearms, given that the requirements for License to Own or Posses Fire Arms and Carry Firearms Outside of Residence is met.

This revelation though was met with dismay by the Catholic Church, where some state that stating that if this was the case, then they should’ve either joined the military or police.

Bishop Pablo Virgilio Siongco David of the Diocese of Kalookan was one of those representatives of the Catholic Church who was incredibly disappointed, he stated.

“We don’t even have to dwell on the morality of it. It is not priestly, to say the least.”

Meanwhile Davao Archbishop and President of Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines Romulo Valles stated that,

“We are men of God, men of the church, and it is part of our ministry to face dangers, to face deaths if one may say that way.”

As we can see, their sentiments built of hypocrisy yet again. The reasons may vary on why those priests wanted to arm and protect themselves, but let us not forget that this may be fueled be the recent members of the clergy. Which apparently was condemned by the Church.

Now they’re saying that the “men of the church” should “face de@th” because doing otherwise is “not priestly”? Then why did they complain about the murders in the first place if this was their actual sentiments on protection of their own?

Can the Catholic Church of the Philippines stop being vague about their stand? Preposterously condemning their own for arming themselves for protection against an issue of multiple priest murders that they condemned is a bit confusing.
