In todays times, the plague of new world convenience in the form of unnaturally and chemically produced products is a well known danger to the world that may utterly bring the end of it, in the slowest yet most suffering-filled destruction of the Earth.

Like a rusted knife that stabs a being slowly, with pain accumulated over time increasing, the Earth sympathizes with the slowly creeping death of every life form on it.

The Philippine is but one of the three countries to pollute the oceans with plastics the most, this pollution contributes to the 60-90 percent of marine pollution being of the same substance, plastic.

But simple ways like what Len Tejada Katindig showed the netizens of Facebook creates a huge impact on the never ending dumping of plastic. Katindig was using reusable plastic take-away containers instead of disposable plastic bags when buying meat, fish or poulty at super or wet markets.

A little sacrifice goes a long way, the genius woman actually threw away convenience in order to stop throwing away environmentally-threatening plastic bags.

Her post actually went viral, netizens were astounded at how well-packed the meat and fish were. They also kept on asking if produce that she bought came with the reusable containers. While others wanted to do what she did.

In Len Tejada Katindig’s Facebook post, through the Movement Against Plastic Pollution – Ilocos Norte Facebook page, it stated that,

Environment > Convenience

When I put my well packed meat/fish sa counter i always hear admiration from strangers. “ang galing nung kanya naka tupperware.” “pwede pala magdala ng ganyan.” Sometimes they come to me and ask if the meat came with the containers.

Gusto nila but lagi silang tinatalo ng convenience. Ang sad no?

Katindig has shown that simple sacrifice on convenience may lead to a cleaner future, if efforts collectively done, then maybe one day we can finally eliminate this immortal threat to the Earth’s biosphere.
