Duterte assured to meet Jeepney Drivers

President Rodrigo Duterte assured labor groups that he will meet with jeepney drivers who held a national strike on the controversial plan to phase out old jeepneys, presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said Wednesday.
"It was an assurance that he would also listen to them because their own concerns were different," Abella said.
Transport group Piston earlier said 600,000 drivers and 200,000 operators nationwide took part in the transport strike earlier this week.
The strike prompted the cancellation of elementary and high school classes in key cities nationwide.
The dialogue comes after the President met with various labor groups in Malacañang on the issue of labor contractualization.

“The President also assured the workers group that he would be holding a separate meeting with the jeepney strikers who held a national strike on the controversial plan to phase out old jeepneys,” Abella said in a Palace press briefing.

A public transportation strike was launched by various jeepney operators on Monday in protest of the government’s plan to phase out their vehicles. They expressed concern that the replacement of jeepneys will cost millions and bury the jeepney drivers and operators in debt.

Transportation officials earlier assured that the modernization of the jeepney sector will have a three-year transition period to improve the quality of public transportation in the country.
Other Metro Manila cities have also called off classes for college students.

With this, the unveiling philosophy of both parties should be a consideration to all. What will be the cause and effect  of this commotion to the society. We will see the upcoming days of our President in Malacanang.

In related to this, some of the jeepney drivers from Cagayan De Oro also joined the said strike, there will be  be little or no jeepneys and other Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs).

The National Confederation of Transport Union (NCTU)-Northern Mindanao will lead the more than 15 other transport organizations that manifested their support to the whole day transport strike, starting 4:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Joel Gabatan, regional coordinator of NCTU-Northern Mindanao, said the group sees the planned phase-out affecting thousands of drivers and operators in the region. Gabatan said Cagayan de Oro has a total of 40 transport associations including the 12 local member organization of the NCTU-Northern Mindanao.

The attitude of our President is really overwhelming, he very on hand with whats happening with our country and this is the kind of person I think that each nation will look for to lead their country.
